Mary Crockett recieved her BFA from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 1990. After many years as a marketing manager then art director for pharmaceutical companies, she founded and ran MarvinDog Productions for 16 years – a graphic/web design company located in the heart of Chicago. When she in financial management. Although successful, it was not for her. She happily returned to the world of art and creativity full time in 2022.
Mary sells her artwork by commission, at art festivals, on the streets of Manhattan, online and at her Gallery in Quakertown, PA. Although almost always acrylic and heavily detailed, the subject matter varies from Picasso/Dali/Bosch-influenced pieces to landscapes to unique portraiture. She calls these portraits “stark realism” because they are far from idealized and instead focus on human characteristics one usually prefers to keep hidden.
Looking past standard idealism, and seeing beyond the distraction of the conspicuous to capture its unique self. Some of my images are subjects of obvious beauty, most are not. My hope is that those who study my work, will find themselves looking more deeply into the people and world around them, to discover appeal and interest in all.
